About IDV

Interactive Data Visualization, Inc. (IDV) develops software products with a focus on real-time three dimensional technology for the game development, visual simulation, data visualization, and animation industries. IDV, a privately held corporation, was founded in 1999 in Columbia, South Carolina.

IDV, now headquartered in Lexington, South Carolina, was co-founded by Chris King and Michael Sechrest and was one of the first client companies in the University of South Carolina Technology Incubator. Initially formed as a software engineering services company, the launching of IDV's SpeedTree® product suite transformed the company into a successful product developer serving a thriving international market.

SpeedTree®

SpeedTree is a software product suite for creating virtual 3D foliage in games, visual simulations, and animations. Organizations using SpeedTree for their game or simulation development include Microsoft, Sony, Electronic Arts, Activision, Epic Games, LucasArts, BioWare, SEGA, Atari, THQ, NCsoft, and Vivendi.

In 2005, SpeedTreeRT won the game industry’s highest honor, a Front Line Award in the middleware category. SpeedTree was a Front Line Award finalist in 2004 and 2006.

Eye-Sys®

In Q4 of 2007, IDV launched Eye-Sys, a visualization application that delivers unprecedented versatility to the challenges of visualizing complex and dynamic data of all types. The software was developed and partially funded through engagements with the US Dept of Defense, various research organizations and leading defense contractors. Early adopters include Lockheed Martin, other major technology firms, and various groups within the US Dept of Defense.

Some information about the Columbia area:

“Just as its fathers planned it two centuries ago, Columbia is in the center of everything. It is the seat of state government; a hub of the arts, education and history; the gateway to a wealth of recreation lands and waters, and from its birth, a center of hospitality.”

“Visitors today see outstanding renovations that have restored the State House and Governor's Mansion to their former grace and dignity; museums of art and history; an African American Historical Monument and war memorials that honor South Carolinians. Discover historic Southern homes, a state museum, challenging golf courses and the nationally acclaimed Riverbanks Zoo & Botanical Gardens. Lexington County's Lake Murray is a haven for all types of water-related activities, with 649 miles of shoreline and waters teeming with stripers, bass, bream and crappie. Three rivers running through the region and down Richland County‘s Congaree Swamp National Monument are perfect for canoes and kayaks. Looking for small town atmosphere? It's as close as Saluda and Newberry, where a revitalized downtown includes specialty shops and the restored Newberry Opera House.”
